Holocaust Argument Paper

English 112-10 am March 16, 2013 The Holocaust Dilemma The Holocaust made many broken hearts and hardships that have left the world with an incredible scar in their history. This horrible occasion that happened during WWII in Jewish inhumane imprisonments ought not be messed with when talking about it. Numerous researchers accept that great data came to fruition of the Holocaust and in spite of the fact that this can be precise it isn't right to consider utilizing data that was gathered through agony, murders, shameful acts, and insensitive demonstrations of brutality to Jewish men, ladies, and children.Heavy experimentation was directed on reluctant patients in inhumane imprisonments during World War II. Examinations on hypothermia, discharge, elevation infection, air contamination, and so forth were directed on honest Jewish individuals with the guise that Jewish lives were in any case previously censured. Much data was acquired through this overwhelming experimentation accordingly numerous specialists and researcher today guarantee that this data ought to be utilized because of the exactness of human testing contrasted with creature testing. Lives can be spared with this data; thus the lives of the killed Jews won't be left in vain. There have been situations where Nazi information could have been significant and defended to utilize as a result of various clinical advances. Take the chilling/freezing bodies tests for thought; Doctor John Hayward, a Biology Professor at the Victoria University in Vancouver, Canada directed freezing investigates willing applicants; be that as it may, he didn't let the internal heat level of his patients drop under 36 degrees. As indicated by Peter Tyson in â€Å"The Experiments,† Hayward tried numerous techniques to locate the most effective and quickest approach to rewarm the solidified body.Although he morally led these investigations, they were not close to as important as the trials contrasted with the tests directed by the Nazis in Dachau since they submerged casualties in lower temperatures. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) likewise addressed whether the information held from the Holocaust ought to be used when testing air poisons, for example, phosgene utilized in the assembling of pesticides and plastic. Phosgene is hazardous, assaulting for the most part the lungs and making a bodily fluid develop prompting demise of â€Å"drowning†.EPA had data of phosgene in light of creature testing yet isn't close to as exact as human testing. For this situation, Nazi information could have been a decent asset to help spare existences of laborers and suburbanites who were continually in contact with the air toxin phosgene. In spite of the fact that it appears to be sensible to divert to the information acquired from Nazi experimentation got from tests held in various diverse death camps, there are a few reasons why this data ought not be used. Above all else there are enormous physiolog ical contrasts between malnourished tormented Jews versus the ordinary normal Joe.Second of all the logical respectability of Nazis is sketchy because of extraordinary partiality and loathe toward the Jewish; third of all the way that the data accomplished after Nazi testing was never distributed makes second thoughts in believing that this information is right. Researchers and specialists must consider the way that every single Jewish, wanderer, and individuals with incapacities were exceptionally unfortunate during experimentation. Dried out, hungry, harmed, tormented, thus numerous different things were actualized on these guiltless people. How can these test outcomes be basically utilized when these Holocaust casualties don't have about a similar wellbeing individuals do today? As indicated by Doctor Jay Katz of the Yale University School of Law, â€Å"Those tests uncovered nothing which enlightened medication can use† and that, â€Å"gross infringement of human principle s that they are not to be trusted by any means. † Malnourishment and misuse was delivered to mass gatherings of inhumane imprisonment casualties along these lines their wellbeing doesn't quantify up causing data got during WWII wrong. There are various strategies in discovering solutions for hypothermia, elevation ailment, irresistible maladies, and so on hrough overwhelming logical innovative work. Distrust is inescapable when the alleged examinations directed by the Nazis to Jews are not distributed. Perhaps the reality a great part of the information vital, for example, sex, weight, and age are absent in a significant number of the documentations. As indicated by Baruch C. Cohen in the Jewsih Law Article, The Ethics Of Using Medical Data From Nazi Experiments, â€Å"The information was not recorded from logical speculation and research, yet rather, it was motivated and managed through racial belief systems of destruction. In spite of the fact that this maltreatment was cau sed with the defense that it was negligible experimentation, it doesn't appear to be sheltered to utilize when indispensable data is missing. Tests conduce significant data; anyway logical experimentation is recorded with various body ranges, for example, sex, age, weight, clinical history, and so forth on the off chance that this data is inadequate with regards to, at that point wouldn’t there be a huge worry that Nazi information won't be sufficiently precise to help lives today yet rather execute clinical patients.Yes there is consistently a hazard when medical procedures are performed, yet by and by I would need the data to originate from somebody who was tried with a similar sickness to be in comparative wellbeing than me. Not exclusively was clinical experimentation corrupt in Nazi inhumane imprisonments yet there was additionally other horrendous experimentations caused on the survivors of Holocaust death camps. In the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum there are pictures that demonstrate human tissue was used for light shades and book ties alongside other safeguarded body parts, for example, hair and remaining organs from experimentation.Soap produced using human bones and substance was likewise produced using the testing in WWII Holocaust death camps. How might one envision showering while the dense body of a friend or family member dissolves on their skin? In what manner can specialists today despite everything trust it is alright to utilize all the data assembled through desolation, torment, and uncalled for enduring of guiltless Jews? In what manner can a researcher be so lethargic to ethically and morally make disclosures through substantial research? It isn't right to utilize data found through the evil examinations incurred in death camps during the Holocaust when there are different approaches to discover comparable sightings. The unfeeling demonstrations of viciousness and awful analyses tried on the individuals who were casualties of inhumane imprisonments during the Holocaust have made tinted information. Despite the fact that it might be enticing to audit the information found however human testing in German death camps, researchers and specialists need to locate an alternate technique to find comparative information since this data might be erroneous. As referenced in past passages it is exploitative and unethical to utilize the data accumulated from researchers in the Holocaust inhumane imprisonments on the grounds that their tests were directed by partiality and contempt reasoning.Sources Cited Kor, Eva Mozes. â€Å"Nazi Experiments as Viewed by a Survivor of Mengele's Experiments. † Caplan, Arthur L. Los Angeles in the 30's and 40's versus today - Essay Example Albeit LAX is as of now a widely acclaimed air terminal, it wasn’t consistently the focal point of consideration. Preceding its origin, the essential air terminals for Los Angeles were Burbank and Grand Central Airport in Glendale. Around then, it was found east of Sepulveda Boulevard, which wound up being rerouted toward the west to circle around the new runways that were made in 1950. In 1934, Upton Sinclair chose to run for the governor’s seat of California. Times had assaulted Sinclair unmercifully for a considerable length of time, which at last demolished his odds. President Roosevelt couldn’t effectively help him as he was scarcely into his New Deal and was battling himself. He couldn’t embrace him, since he would be viewed as supporting communism, however on a similar token, on the off chance that he didn’t underwrite him, others would call him apprehensive for not supporting a competitor of his gathering. This was the forerunner to an assortment of things that we presently have being used the nation over. Sinclair is acknowledged for causing with motivation to a significant number of FDR’s New Deal programs, including Social Security and positively was the principal survivor of smear crusading and grimy legislative issues. Today, when we have any political decision imminent, the entirety of the papers, radio broadcasts and TV slots convey smear advertisements, one gathering against the other to persuade us that the skeletons in the other parties’ storage rooms exceed their own. It’s odd to imagine that this all began with a notable creator who needed to run for Governor of California. His muckraking books outwitted him, as while he was for FDR’s New Deal, he likewise drove a development called EPIC (End Poverty in California), the stage on which he was running for Governor. This likewise assisted with moving the Democratic Party further to one side where they keep on being today. Most Californians have at

Requirements to Become a Supreme Court Justice

There are no explicit requirements in the U.S. Constitution for a person to be nominated to become a Supreme Court justice. No age, education, job experience, or citizenship rules exist. In fact, according to the Constitution, a Supreme Court justice does not need to even have a law degree. What Does the Constitution Say? The Supreme Court was established as a body in Article Three of the Constitution, signed in convention in 1787. Section I describes the roles of the Supreme and Lower Courts; the other two sections are for the kind of cases that should be examined by the Supreme Court (Section 2, since amended by the 11th Amendment); and a definition of treason.   The judicial Power of the United States, shall be vested in one supreme Court, and in such inferior Courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish. The Judges, both of the supreme and inferior Courts, shall hold their Offices during good Behaviour, and shall, at stated Times, receive for their Services, a Compensation, which shall not be diminished during their Continuance in Office. Article 3, U.S. Constitution However, since the Senate confirms justices, experience and background have become important factors in the confirmations, and conventions have been developed and largely followed since the first selection of the court during the first presidents term of office. George Washingtons Requirements The first U.S. President George Washington (1789–1797) had, of course, the most number of nominees to the Supreme Court—14, although only 11 made it to the court. Washington also named 28 lower court positions, and had several personal criteria that he used to pick a justice: Support and advocacy of the U.S. ConstitutionDistinguished service in the American RevolutionActive participation in the political life of a particular state or the nation as a wholePrior judicial experience on lower tribunalsEither a favorable reputation with his fellows or personally known to Washington himselfGeographic suitability—the original Supreme Court were circuit ridersLove of the country Scholars say his first criterion was the most important to Washington, that the individual had to have a strong voice in protecting the Constitution. The most any other president has been able to nominate is nine, during the four terms of office of Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1932–1945), followed by six nominated by William Howard Taft in his single term from 1909 to 1913. Qualities That Make a Good Judge Several political scientists and others have attempted to assemble a list of criteria that make a good federal judge, more as an exercise of looking at the past history of the court. American scholar Sheldon Goldmans list of eight criteria includes: Neutrality as to parties in litigation  Fair-mindedness  Being well-versed in the lawThe ability to think and write logically and lucidly  Personal integrityGood physical and mental health  Judicial temperament  Able to handle judicial power sensibly Selection Criteria Based on the 200 year history of selection criteria actually used by United States presidents, there are four which most presidents use in varying combinations: Objective meritPersonal friendshipBalancing representation or representativeness on the court (by region, race, gender, religion)Political and ideological compatibility   Sources Abraham, Henry Julian. They distribute these products almost every corner of the globe. Their major international markets of the company are USA, Russia, India, Pakistan, France, Malaysia, UK and many more. They started their international journey in 1990 in an effort to tap into the overseas markets (Haier.net, 2017). They face considerable competition in their international market from Philips, whirlpool, godrej and other similar products. The reason behind the company is lasting in their international markets for this long competing with these mentioned competitors is their core value and goal. The company follows a win-win mode of individual goal that provides sustainability to the company. It is because they are concerned to look after the interest of their customers unlike other Chinese companies that seeks for short-term profit (Haier.net, 2017). Their values prioritize the customers opinion, consider them right, and seek for the development their products to satisfy their needs. They also believe in the entrepreneurship and innovation. It helps the company to retain their value. Haire have revised their strategy over time to maintain these core values. The Company currently follows networking strategy to hold the market share and brand loyalty in their overseas markets. The purpose of the essay is to understand the incoterms and the process of selecting proper incoterm for the company. The considerations are discussed in relation to the selected organization and recommendation is made in for gaining competitive advantage in the market. It further focuses on the criterions considered for carrier selection andcarrier relationship management relating the factors with Haier. It also discusses how it can bring profit for the company. Incoterms Selection Consideration The company has invested a considerable amount of money in their first half for developing their logistics for operating in the Chinese market. This is due to the need of dealing with the increased outsourced logistics requirements of their products. They bought sixty per cent of the Shanghai Boyol New Brothers Supply Chainmanagement in the Chinese market and completely bought the complete Boyol Logistics in the international market. This helped them in increasing their profit by 19 per cent in the first half. Later, the company made alliance with the leading e-commerce business Alibaba with a goal of creating industry-leading standards for the logistics. Later, Haier integrated with other logistics business like Gooday mart Logistics to deliver efficient service to their customers (Greg Knowler, 2017). These steps taken by the company has considerably increased their profit and efficiency. However, this is limited to their Chinese market only. They considered foreign direct investme nt in expanding their business to the overseas market. This eliminates their need of supplying the products overseas as they now manufacture their products in their target markets. However, this increases the risk for the company, as they are liable for the goods they are for the product being delivered. This means that the company is chargeable for the damage in course of transportation. In other word, the company is responsible for securely delivering the products to the doorsteps of their customers (Stapleton, Pande O'Brien, 2014). Recommended Incoterm DAP DAP refers to delivered at place, which means the manufacturer is liable to pack and deliver the product to the shipment. The responsibility of the goods there after, moves to the buyers and the buyers are then liable to take responsibilities for the goods. Any kind of damage that might occur after the products have been handed over to the shipment falls under the buyers responsibility. Delivered at Place Moreover, the costing of transportation is also divided accordingly. The buyer needs to carry out the charges and responsibilities for customs clearance in the importing country, and the risk including all the customs duty. The carriage expenses along with the terminal expenses are to be paid by the seller in this case up to the agreed destination point. The buyer bears the costing from the final destination starting from unloading cost under the terms mentioned in DAP (Bergami, 2013). Adopting this third party logistics term will help the company reduce their costing of transport. Moreover, the company will be liable for the security of the product until packaging. Responsibility thereafter will move to the buyer and reduce the risk for the Haier. CPT CPT otherwise known as carriage paid to named destination can considerably reduce the cost and risk factors for Haier. Liability of the manufacturer according to this term is to deliver the products to the named destination for pick up by the first carrier. The costing and responsibility thereafter lies with the buyer. Carriage Paid to The only responsibility of the manufacturer is to pack the products according to the term and deliver it to the first major carrier in a mentioned place. Haier can obtain a certain level of advantage using this third party logistics supply chain by reducing the costing and risk factors incorporated within (Bergami, 2013). Carrier Selection Criteria The overall goal of the company is to deliver high quality products to the customers and consider their interest along with the business interest. This helps the company to do a sustainable business. Transportation goal of Haier on the other hand is to provide a safe delivery to their customers. This concern is due to the types of products them manufacture in their company. The electronic devices possess high threat of damage in transportation. The company further seeks to reduce the expenses spent on the transportation. It makes it obvious that they seek a reliable carrier that will safely deliver their product in low transportation cost. Moreover, the reliable carrier will also reduce the wastage cost that the electronics companies have to consider in the process (Choudhary Shankar, 2014). Reduction in transportation cost will also reduce the end price, which will fulfil Haiers win-win concept. Considerable Criterions Haier needs to consider various factors before selecting their carrier. However, some of them needs special attention as they are the primary determinant for the safe and secure delivery of the products. They are as follows: Geographical This is the most important determinants the company needs to consider in the process of selecting carrier. This is be of the operational area the company is covering. Haier has expanded their market in almost every corner of the world. Their manufacturing facilities and destination market is present in cities around the world (Zhao, 2012). It make it necessary for Haier to select a carrier with maximum geographical coverage. Otherwise, the primary purpose of transpiration will remain unattended. Equipment The second most important criteria the company needs to consider is the equipment the carrier uses for their transportation. Haier manufactures electronic products which is highly vulnerable to physical impacts. Hence, they will require a carrier that is technologically advanced and has the capability to provide the extra care required for transiting the products manufactured by Haier. Considering this factor will help Haier control the damage and reduce the costing that might occur from the damage during transit. Theory of transportation states that the primary objective of the company in transportation should focus on reducing per unit cost for shipping, which is possible to address by reducing the damage in transit (Aguezzoul, 2014). Transit Time Haier also needs to consider the transit time taken by the shipping line they select for delivering their product. It is to increase the satisfaction level of the buyer and to increase their business. Faster delivery means they can deliver more product in short period of time that will help the company to grow their business (Ben-Akiva, Bolduc Park, 2013). Reliability Lastly, Haier needs to consider in the process of carrier selection is the reliability. It incorporates multiple factors some of which are discussed earlier. The carrier should be precise about their pickup and drop location and timing. The shipping line should be picking up the products and deliver them to the exact point as mentioned and within time to ensure the success of the purpose of transportation. Moreover, it should also ensure the safety of the product to reduce the costing of transportation (Meixell Norbis, 2012). Carrier Relation Management As per the earlier discussion, Haier aims to deliver their products safely to their buyers in low cost. Moreover, they also desire to deliver the products in time that will further increase the satisfaction level of the buyer. The transportation model also states similar criteria for the transportation of the goods, which are safety, time and cost effectiveness (Govindan et al, 2012). The company should consider these factors to generate maximum revenue. In addition to the above-mentioned goals, the company also seeks to establish a good relation with the carrier to ensure long-term success. Type of Relationship Long-term relationship with the carrier is considered as the best for any manufacturing company considering many factors. Firstly, frequent change in the carrier company will hamper the business of the manufacturer. Moreover, it will put the business in insecurity regarding to the transportation. It is necessary for Haier to ensure a smooth transportation facility to keep the business running and deliver the products to its customers. Secondly, none of the parties involved will not be able to build trust, which is important in this line of work. The increased reliability of the carrier will ease the process (Graham, 2013). Hence, it will be necessary to build trust between the manufacturer and the carrier, which is possible only through long-term relationship. Thirdly, long-term relationship with a single carrier will save the company a considerable amount of money. Changing the carrier means changing contract, which may considerably vary over time. Moreover, safety measures should a lso be taken into account, which comes with the healthy relationship between the supplier and carrier (Winter Knemeyer, 2013). Process of relationship building Transparency should be maintained between the carrier and supplier. The data related to route, tonnage, monthly volume and other should be properly communicated to develop healthy relationship between the parties. Seasonal changes that might occur should also be calculated and communicated properly in prior order. The opinions provided by the carrier should also be considered as they have a deeper understanding of the geography of the location. Moreover, prioritizing their opinion will help building trust, which is important. Commitments from both the parties are required in this case. It is necessary for the supplier to maintain their commitments before seeking the commitments of the carrier. It will further strengthen the bonding. The opportunities should be shared with the carriers. It means that the manufacturer should provide opportunity to the carrier to gain benefit from the process. In other words, they should be incorporated in the business when the favorable opportunities arises. Operational changes should be properly communicated with the carrier and seek their opinion in the process if possible. This will avoid unwanted disruption in the transport process. Responsibilities related to the technological usage has to be shared by both the carrier and the shipper. The shipper must ensure the minimum manual work related to the tracking of the goods being imposed on the carrier. Conclusion It can be concluded from the above discussion that Haier have expanded their business in the international market and built facilities around the world. Hence, it is important for them to have a proper third party logistics firms to ensure the smooth distribution of their products in their operational markets. The CPT and DAP are the two incoterm that can provide certain level of benefit to the company transporting their products around the world. They can reduce the risk factors involved in international transportation with proper implementation of the proposed incoterms. However, they have to consider the criterions mention to select the right carrier for their distribution. These factors leads to the conclusion that Haier needs to build healthy and long-term relationship with their carrier for ensuring a sustainable development. They can utilize the proposed process of developing relationship with their selected carrier. References Aguezzoul, A. (2014). Oscar Wilde Influence Essays - Operas, Anglo-Irish People

Oscar Wilde Influence One of the most difficult obstacles a playwright has to overcome is finding a way to engage and interest their audience to their piece. Often having to deal with such problems such as boredom, inattentiveness, or just a general lack of interest, playwrights often invent dramatic devices that entice and entertain their audiences. An example of this is the character Lane in Oscar Wilde's "The Importance of Being Earnest." Not only does he portray what the public sentiment is like, he also offers a channel for Wilde to portray the handling of the "lower orders" by the English upper class. Lane, as any good servant should be, is loyal and trustworthy towards his master Algernon. Lane dutifully obliges to his master's requests, and even defends Algernon when he gets in trouble. For example, when discussing with Lady Bracknell the subject of the missing cucumber sandwiches, Lane quickly replies, "There were no cucumbers in the markets this morning,...I went down twice." The reader and the audience are both wise to this ploy. Lane's character also serves a very interesting dramatic function in this piece, in that he serves as a facilitator for Wilde to comment on social perceptions of not only marriage, but of the lower classes as a whole. Before the audience is introduced to Jack, Algernon comments, "Lane's views on marriage seem somewhat lax. Really, if the lower orders don't set us a good example, what on earth is the use of them? They seem, as a class, to have absolutely no sense of moral responsibility." This is a rather bold statement, and it relates to the piece in that it portrays"aristocratic" sentiment towards marriage and society. It also serves a function in portraying that aristocratic sentiment is not always the correct one. The comment shows more that this elitist sentiment is skewed, and out of touch with reality. If it were correct that Lane had no sense of moral responsibility, he probably would not have saved his master from inevitable shame later in the act. While doing this produces some humor in the audience, it is interesting to note that Algernon's perceptions of his servant are so different from how Lane is portrayed in the piece. Lane allows the audience to see how warped high-class perceptions are of society. In the end, Lane is less of a servant to Algernon, and more of a servant to the audience, for he allows them to see things the way they really are in society.

Management consulting-To what extent is it realistic to expect Essay

Management consulting-To what extent is it realistic to expect consultancies to act ethically - Essay Example Consulting is defined as a practice that involves use of multiple talents and expertise to help solve issues in organizations. In the present business environment business consultants have a very important role that provides them with a good influential position in an organization. This has given rise to many ethical aspects that have emerged after a series of frauds that have come to light recently over the few years (Wang, 2008, p.56). The recent case of Mr. Rajat Gupta involved in a series of corporate frauds and unethical practices illustrates the aspect of unethical practices being used by consultants worldwide. The famous and influential consultant who happened to be the managing director of Mc Kinsey and Co illegally and unethically started a parallel consultancy that had his family members in the top management. Mr. Gupta reportedly indulged in unethical practices like leaking sensitive information and insider trading to get unexercised options worth 1.3 million dollars from GE’s subsidiary arm Genpact (Monadnock Research, 2011). It has also been reported that it is the middle management persons that are most often involved in cases of frauds and unethical practices in business organizations (Monadnock Research-a, 2011). ... In the age of capitalism it has often been stated that consultants and consultancies largely act as certifying agents. The auditors largely acted as an assurance agent for external investors and general public towards the aspect of ethicality and trustworthiness of the business organizations. This aspect in itself has given considerable powers and high status to the consultants who normally act as auditors for business organizations (Sikka, 2009, p.3). With the passage of time since the industrial revelation the world has seen many reforms that also include better surveillance and control by the regulatory authorities on public organizations as well as the financial institutions like banks and stock markets. The growth of business organizations was also followed by a commensurate growth in the consultancy industry. However the aspect of regulations and monitoring was completely absent for this sector that has perhaps led to the growth of unethical practices in the industry (Mahoney, 2011, p.5). The aspect of unethical aspect in the consulting industry has been often traced to the aspect of individualism in the industry. It is a common practice in the consulting industry to make individual consultants accountable for their activities that also includes the aspect of providing accolades for their performances. This has been identified as one of the major reasons for the growing influence of the consultants that in turn has given rise to unethical practise in the industry. This aspect of unethical means has also led to the growth of a popular feeling with regards to the trustworthiness of the consultants with regards to their practices in the industry (Mahoney, 2011, p.3). The trustworthy perception of

Extra Credit #2 Movie Review Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Extra Credit #2 - Movie Review Example The Credit Crisis is a short video by Jonathan Jarvis, which illustrates the 2007 international financial crisis. It is very challenging to identify an individual or organization that was not negatively affected by the crisis. Understanding the complex financial systems that resulted in the large scale financial meltdown is very difficult. The movie demystifies the subprime lending, poor relationship among the financial stakeholders, and the Glass-Steagall Act adequately. Knowledge is power, and Wall Street has continuously applied the principle to benefit financially. The CNBC Subprime Mortgage Special - House of Cards illustrates issues that closely resemble the current real estate sector. One of the issues is the profit motive among the real estate players. The financial greed among investors is what led to the financial crisis. Quick Loan Funding provided credit to people who could not afford down payment. Thus the number of borrowers increased, and the company recorded millions in profit. Presently, many financial institutions fund mortgage products by providing cheap credit facilities to the investors. The Credit Crisis illustrates that the financial system is complex and large scale. Very many people do not understand this complex financial system, and thus the financial crisis was experienced. Millions of Americans did not understand the magnitude of the large credit bubble that occurred during the past decade, due to limited financial knowledge. When the bubble burst, negative financial consequences were thus realized. Many people currently do not understand the global financial system because of the complexities involved. Due to the greed of financial institutions, many people still get excessive credit products despite of negative effects shown during the financial crisis. The two films have one major similar feature. They both discuss the negative effects of the global financial crisis. The Credit Crisis explains that the financial

Farewell Address Analysis Essay Example for Free

Farewell Address Analysis Essay In 1976, former United States President George Washington delivered one of the most meaningful and talked-about Farewell Addresses. The Address was a combination of his personal thoughts on his presidency, as well as a warning and advice to the people of United States. Washington begins by telling his countrymen that it was originally planned to be delivered four years prior when he thought of retiring as president of United States. However, feeling that he is obligated to answer to the needs of the very people who elected him to his post, he decided to extend his presidency. Washington knew that his retirement would cause a lot of concern and anxiety among his fellow Americans and so he builds their confidence, and at the same time, warns them about the dangers of sectionalism, political factions, and foreign alliances. Sectionalism Washington stresses the need for unity throughout his Farewell Address, saying that this where the true success and liberty of the country depends on. He also warns against sectionalism; that is, having a state-centric rather than a Union-centric mindset. He further calls on to the American people to continue defending the Union against possible attacks from other countries who seek to destabilize the government. In addition, Washington warns his countrymen against misleading ideas propagated by the government’s enemies that United States is too big a territory to be handled by just one administration. He underscores that this seemingly large and fragmented territory can be bound by unity and cooperation. He reminds the people that regardless of the state they live in, or the regional boundaries that exist between and among them, they are, at the end of the day, all Americans. Thus, everyone should play his or her part in keeping the Union intact. Political Factions Another aspect that Americans should be on close guard, according to Washington, is the existence of political factions which seek to weaken, and later on overthrow the government. He points out that while people advocating political factions may seem to have reasonable arguments, they are ultimately doing it for personal, and oftentimes, greedy motives. Washington also alerts his fellow Americans that these people might use government policies or exploit certain provisions of the Constitution to carry out their selfish plans. He continues to warn the people about the dangers of having political parties in any government. He argues that political parties have always been viewed as enemies of the state because of their tendency to amass great power to destabilize the government or hit on their political rivals. While political parties may be useful in other forms of government, they are not necessary in a democratic government such as the United States. Foreign Alliances While Washington encourages the people to treat all people and all other countries with utmost respect and avoid engaging them in battles or disputes, he warns them against establishing long-term or permanent ties with foreign governments. This, he says, develops unnecessarily strong attachment to other countries which might negatively affect the government’s ability to establish sound foreign policies. Throughout this Farewell Address, Washington regards the American identity in the highest possible level, and calls on the people to continuously defend and protect this. His personal love of his country was also evident in his Address through the warnings and advice he issued to his fellow Americans. Moreover, his personal love for the country was evident in the contents of the Address. He did not leave without making sure that the country is strong and that the people are even stronger to take good care of it.

Deadbeat Parents :: essays research papers

Parents who do not pay their child support are deadbeat parents. This creates a hardship for the case managers in the child support office, the legal staff in preparing documents and court appearances, but most importantly, the children who are the recipients of the child support. Child support enforcement exists to help ensure that every child receives the support that is required by law. This process begins through court ordered divorce, paternity genetic testing, or application made directly to the child support office. Through a court ordered divorce proceeding, the absent parent (the individual who is not awarded custody) is required to pay child support. Guidelines are established for determining the amount to be paid and an order is established. If an individual is in disagreement with an order a paternity genetic test can be given. A custodial parent can complete an application to submit to the local child support enforcement office. Once this is received, the application goe s through several processes. First, an establishment case manager reviews the paperwork and has appointments with both parties involved. Once the order is established, through the case manager or child support court, the case goes to an enforcement case manager. This person is responsible for enforcing the child support order by maintaining contact with the absent parent, securing employment information, address, etc. If an individual fails to comply with the order, another process begins. The case is referred to the legal department for enforcement. Paperwork issued from the court is mailed to the individual requiring them to appear in court on a specific date and time. If they do appear, they are given an opportunity to explain why they are not meeting their order. If this is acceptable by the judge, they are given another opportunity to comply. In most cases, the absent parents do not show up for court and a contempt warrant is issued. These deadbeats are not easily found. The ch ild support enforcement office has to depend on information received from concerned citizens.

Imperialism Is The Act Of A Larger - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 2 Words: 664 Downloads: 4 Date added: 2019/04/15 Category Politics Essay Level High school Tags: Imperialism Essay Did you like this example? Imperialism is the act of a larger, stronger country taking over a smaller, weaker country politically, socially, and economically. The 18th and 19th century marked the Age of Imperialism, as European countries strived for more land and power. This was due to many reasons such as economic power, glory, religion, and nationalism. Nigeria is one of the various countries that were imperialized during this time period. Although imperialism happened in 1901, some of its consequences and effects still shape Nigeria today. The long term effects of imperialism in Nigeria include the lack of national identity and terrorism. Short term effects include the loss of traditional customs and the benefits of unification. Most of the effects of imperialism in Nigeria carried until today are negative. Out of the many effects such as poverty and corruption, the most impactful effects are the lack of national identity and terrorism. However, some argue that imperialism was beneficial to Nigeria. In fact, the country Nigeria itself could not have existed at all if it wasn’t imperialized. After Nigeria formally became a British Protectorate in 1901, it was unified by Lord Frederick, a british governor in 1914. Before, the land of Nigeria included diverse ethnic groups and empires, who in fact, did not get along at all. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Imperialism Is The Act Of A Larger" essay for you Create order However, because Nigeria was forcefully united despite the strong cultural differences and diverse ethnic groups that were not in peace, Nigeria lacks national identity, even today. The main purpose of this idea of nationality is to unite all the social, religious and ethnic groups to make them identify as Nigerians all together despite their distinct differences. This a very hard task for Nigerians to accomplish today for there are many conflicts existing between groups that prohibit them from having peace with each other. Furthermore, this has caused terrorism, especially by Nigerias militant Islamist group Boko Haram, who are fighting for their desire of Nigeria being Islamic. This group has caused havoc in not only Nigeria, but also in Africa’s most populous countries, through a campaign of bombings and attacks. Not only has this problem caused many deaths, but is further leading the country into poverty. If the different groups weren’t forcefully unified to be Nigeria, this state of chaos might have been prevented. Both of these long term effects are very harmful and negative, thus suggesting how imperialism in Nigeria was harmful. Some effects that occurred when Nigeria was imperialized include the loss of traditional customs and the benefits of unification. One of the many reasons why Britain wanted Nigeria was to spread christianity. So when Nigeria was colonized, Britain forced its religion and traditions on Nigerians, converting them into Christians. Furthermore, as before imperialism tribal leaders were elected by its people, chiefs were being appointed by a governor who was appointed by a British. Thus, Britain was controlling all of Nigerian tribes indirectly through their leaders. This way, Britain forced its traditions and cultures on the Nigerian tribes. There were in fact, some positive effects to imperialism in Nigeria. Because Nigeria was united, it was able to gain its independence from Great britain. One of the reasons why it was so easy for Britain to imperialize Nigeria was because it was consisted of diverse tribal groups who were not unified. But as the groups had the same goal and were unified by the British, with them fighting all together, were able to achieve independence. However, this is a short term effect for Nigeria’s unification was harmful on the long run, as mentioned in the previous paragraph. I believe that effects of imperialism in Nigeria were overall very negative, for Nigeria does not have a stable government. Nigeria is a federal republic whose government operates as a representative democracy. However, the government only looks out for the wealthy, as they strive for wealth and power, ignoring the country’s serious problems such as poverty, and are weak in fighting the terrorists. Nigeria, due to the effects of imperialism, is in crisis today.
